Bam Municipality & City Council Building
Type: Office Status: Concept Scale: Large Year: 2005 Location: Bam, Kerman, Iran Area: Undisclosed
As the first project of the “Nextoffice”, the design of the Bam Municipality originated from ideas that were later repeated in many other projects; The idea of using dual narratives and weaving them in spatial organization.
This dual design is narrative in form, experience, and scenario. From the form perspective, the design is an allegory of sprouting and pulling out of the soil; A building that rises from empty land and grows, and as it gains height, it goes from a rectangular form to a more plastic and free form. It is also empirically a narration of the user's movement in the building (circulation); People are rediscovering the city, climbing the stairs, and passing through the narrow passage whose ceiling is getting shorter by the minute due to the crisis. But passing through this bottleneck leads them to the opening of the desert sky. In our proposed program, the municipal part (a more governmental institution) is buried in the ground, and the part related to the city council (a more popular institution) rises, appears, and authenticates.
